The big trip. Day 1

The day after family left we packed up and headed off on our big trip. For the sake of letting you know what we did I'll copy down what we wrote in our journal and share a few pictures.

Day 1

Went to bed at 12, got up at 2. The boys (dogs) seemed to know we were going somewhere. We got to Portland at 4 am. Eric Birch was kind enough to wake up at the wee hours of the morning to drive us to the airport and allow us to park our car in front of his home. What a blessing!

Flights were good. Jen went to Chicago, Leo went to Houston.

Note: Bags are too big as carry-ons. Besides a brief chewing froman airport stewardess all was good. Ps. Little boy on Jen's flight go sick and was barfing all over the place. Really gross!

Rondevou time 4:50 in Washington DC.

It took us a bit to figure out the DC metro system. After taking a brief "sight seeing experience" (ie. going the wrong direction on the metro, we got off at Rosslin in DC.) We wondered the streets of DC without three suitcases and finally found the Best Western. Ate pizza and decided to stay at the hotel and hit monuments tomorrow. Good decision as 15 minutes later torential downpour. Payed games. Having fun thus far and haven't been mugged.

The longest escalator ever! You couldn't even see the end!

Leo on the phone with family letting them know we got there safe. Taken on our very first metro ride of the trip. Our sightseeing adventure!
