Cannon Beach

(disclosure: These are not my photo's, but anybody in Oregon would be able to identify Haystack Rock-Cannon Beaches landmark. Cannon Beach is called so because of the cannons found ashore in 1846 from the US Navy schooner "Shark". It evidently was passing through the Columbia Bar, also known as the "Graveyard of the Pacific" ,because of the danger of the bar, and wrecked. The townspeople renamed their town after the cannons. There are also accounts of William Clark from the Lewis and Clark expedition, being invited by the Native Americans to come view a great whale that had beached there. He travelled to find a 105' blue whale. He left with whale blubber and oil. Just thought that was interesting!)

The following day we travelled to Cannon Beach, one of my personal favorite places to visit. It is always so beautiful here. The town itself is sprinkled with huge hanging flower baskets and ritzy shopping. To expensive for us, but always fun to go to the galleries and watch the glass blowers. They have a Christian conference area that would be a dream to go to. They also have horseback riding on the beach. This time we were almost tempted to sign up for it as it is something I would LOVE to do some time--but alas, leaving the dogs in the hot car would have been a bad choice.

The day we were there was just perfect! 85 degrees, hot sand, and a frigid ocean to cool the feet. The pups got their running oppertunity and we just enjoyed watching them and walking. Leo and I decided a while ago that we would be great beach bums as we enjoy looking for shells and odd rocks and letting our pups run.

Interesting observation/questions.

1.) Why do people have a strange facination with burrying themselves in the sand?
2.)Why does my dog always run out into the ocean and take a dump?
3.) Does one then attempt to try to follow the floating poo out into the ocean with a poop bag?

Things to ponder.
