Day 7

Took off early in the morning to get to NYC. We are very nervous about driving in NY traffic.

Made it to NYC in one piece. Leo almost ran over a group of people. This was the moment we realized that New Yorkers just GO. Note to self. Yellow lights are 3 seconds long. That's it. Another discovery Garmina (our name for our Garmin/travelling companion/navigational system) doesn't work in the city. The skyscrapers block her transmission. Not fun to discover in the middle of New York. Our hotel is located in the corner of the Times Square area and Central Park.

This car actually pulled up next to us, the guy rolled down his window (at a light) and proceeded to hold on a car conversation with Leo. He was impressed with our rental car make and model. When the light turned green he zoomed up in front of us. So weird!

Arrived at New York "Dream" Hotel. Very strange hotel. It has a two story fish tank, temple complete with gods, antelope sculls, blacklights under the bed, strange pop art of a crying girl (which we covered with a towel during the duration of our stay), and complimentary apples, and book of Buddha. Strange.

We took the book of Buddha to rid the hotel of yet one more lost and confused soul. After settling in and reducing rapid heart beat, we ventured out into NYC. We walked through Central Park and made an observation:

7 things you can find in Central Park:
1. Group Power napping.
2. A reduced smell of trash. (As the entire city smells like a huge garbage can.)
3. Horse poop buckets hanging off carriage horse bums.
4. The only green that's natural (debatable) in the city.
5. Scary tunnels you would want to avoid at night, also the location of many movies.
6. Police officers giving ticket to children for skateboarding in the only place in NYC you could possibly be a kid.
7. OLD ladies playing football.

After walking, walking and more walking, we arrived at the Museum of Natural History. Leo ranted and raved (negatively) about the dinosaur and evolution sections. ~Conveniently just loud enough for people to hear. Leo's favorite: Geology and minerals (very impressive). Jen's favorite: Ocean life (complete with life size sperm whale.)

We left absolutely in wonder and pooped. We walked through central park, vowed to visit times square in it's full glory and at ate at a little restaurant near to the Hotel. Very expensive in NYC.

We retired in our rooms with no working tv, Internet, and hot water that took ten minutes to heat up. Not planning on buying a We (heart) NYC shirt as planned.... but do love that museum!
