After saying goodbyes with hugs and kisses we left in the wee hours of the morning for Boston. We love our Garmin. Got to Boston safely and quickly with no problems. Checked into the hotel early and headed for a fun filled day into downtown Boston.
Took the subway system. Le’s getting ah old of it all. Went to Bunker Hill,
(love the architecture of Boston)
walked to USS Constitution (oldest “active” navy ship”, explored a WII warship.
more of the city!
Went to long Warf and had the greasiest burger known to man. Bought some sun location and a dramamene (chewable- blah) Boarded the Liberty Clipper. We hoisted the sail, enjoyed the view of the harbor.
Saw the Queen Mary II cruise ship. Saw the water tower that holds Bostons excess book archives, the taburculosis center/homeless shelter, listened to some colonial Revolution men ~”Hazaah”, threw ("environmentally safe") tea overboard, saw for Independence, shot off a cannon. It was pretty cool.
Shop full of "1 baggers".
(I couldn't resist the last picture. My dad used to have this joke about 1 bagger and 2 baggers. The shop front made me laugh because it reminded of it.)
After our sea adventure we crossed the Charles river by foot and went to the old state house. This was the site of the Boston Massacre.
Whew… If that wasn’t enough, we jumped on the metro and went to Science Park. After much searching we finally found a mall with a Cheesecake Factory. We split a gret meal (much needed as we were tired and getting a little edgy with each other) and then headed out to find our spot for the fireworks across the Charles River in the Charles Bank Park. Some things we saw....
We'd never seen so many air conditioning units hanging out of one building.
8:30 arrive at park – can hear Boston Pops
9:00 getting dark and cold – Thunderbirds go over, must be starting!
9:30 fireworks supposed to start. It’s cold.
10:00 butts hurt. Cold. Get 30 seconds of fireworks. Fireworks cease. What’s wrong?!
10:30 Pops still playing. People are leaving. Supposedly fireworks are supposed to be an hour long. What’s going on?
10:45 We begin packing things up to leave (very disappointed). As we are leaving the words start (after listening to the grand finale song by the Pops.)
- WOW.
11:08 Fireworks end – absolutely awesome.
11:09 leo and Jen RUN to metro and catch the first blue rail out. People are exiting in droves. Leo’s ready to barrel over people to catch that first one.
11:50 get back to the car, we love Garmin.
12:00 Get back to Hotel
12:05 Crash. Have dreams about ships and fireworks.
